1^st Annual Thomas Shipman Scholarship

Tom Shipman was a designated youth officer in the Lake Placid Police Department.  He died in 1995 and his legacy remains with the Shipman Youth Center. 

This year for the first time, the Board of Directors of the SYC has created a $500.00 scholarship to be used for books and to be given to a graduating senior who is going on to college. 

The recipient will have exhibited substantial interest and participation in all activities of the SYC both internally and within the community.  He/she will have shown leadership skills and a sense of reliability while going to school and working.

Funding for this scholarship will come from the proceeds generated by the ILBBQF, which is in its 3^rd year as the SYC’s signature fund raiser.

The 2008 recipient of the Thomas Shipman Scholarship is Thomas Vassar who will attend Clinton Community College.
